Make a pillow chair from old t-shirts!

I stopped by Crafty superstar, Becky Stern's design studio and helped her make a bean-bag-type chair from old t-shirts. It was super fun and super upcycled! Watch the video for the complete step-by-step to transform your worn-out t-shirts into this comfy chair.

I am going to attemt to make one of these this weekend. Since I have never used a sewing machine it will be interesting. I would like to know a couple of things if anyone can help: How important is the "soft arch" and is wide is bottom part that was cut from the pattern? Any help would be awsome.

P.S. is there a was to scale it down for little kid size chairs?

Here are the pictures from my attempt this project. I think this must be a great project for beginners because I have never used a sewing machine before and I pulled it off.

Hey Kyle - It's great to see you went ahead and crafted up this project before I got a chance to reply to your questions.

Your chair turned out great!!! I LOVE it!! And good to know that even a beginner sewing person can upcycle their t-shirts into a chair.

For anyone else interested the pattern is scaleable. Just be sure to leave the same 60 degree arch. And just the rest of the pattern piece down proportionally.

This was an awesome idea. I did one thing different - I added a zipper and filled it with stuffed animals.

Check on my blog - http://creativegal42.blogspot.com/2010/03/tshirt-crafts-part-one.html

Thanks for a great idea!

Hey Sarah -
Great idea for upcycling stuffed animals as bean bag stuffing!

A lot of thrift stores won't take stuffed animals because of allergies, but reusing them yourself as stuffing is a great way to give them another go.

Love the way your chair turned out!
Keep on upcyclin'!
